2012 YEHLEX STOCKPORT LEAGUE HANDICAP TOURNAMENTS
The tournaments will be held on the following dates at Bramhall Sports Centre. In line with last year’s successful change to the format all preliminary games will be played on Sunday March 11th, with the semis and finals to be on Sunday March 18th. The actual start time will depend on the entry received, but will be from late afternoon to evening.
There are also 3 new events for senior players (designated as over 60). The proposed events are mens, ladies and mixed doubles.

SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS The semi-finals and finals of all events will be played at Bramhall on Sunday March 18th, starting at 4.00pm. ENTRY FEES Entries must be accompanied by the correct fees (£6.00 per person per event). Cheques should be made payable to ‘Stockport Badminton League’. SHUTTLES YEHLEX have provided all the shuttles to be used free of charge. My thanks go to Yehlex for their generosity. PROGRAMMES Each club entering and anybody providing an email address will be supplied with a programme via email VETERAN EVENTS Competitors in these events must have been aged 40 or over on September 1st 2011. SENIOR EVENTS Competitors in these events must have been aged 60 or over on September 1st 2011. FAMILY MIXED This tournament is restricted to close relatives, ie, husband/wife, brother/sister, father/daughter or mother/son. PAINE PLATE All pairs who lose their first match in the Handicap Mixed Doubles are eligible to enter the Paine Plate. COMPETITION RULES A full set of rules is detailed in the current edition of the League Handbook. CLOSING DATE Entry forms together with the correct fees must be returned to the Tournament Secretary at the above address not later than Friday 24th February. No entries will be accepted after this date. TROPHIES Club Secretaries are reminded that all trophies, divisional and tournament are due for return to me by finals day – late return could mean your club being fined!
The League Open, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Section Tournaments will be held at Bramhall Recreation Centre, Seal Rd, Bramhall in November. The details are as follows:

PLATE EVENTS Plate events will be held in the knockout events, guaranteeing all entrants at least 2 games.

PROGRAMMES Programmes will be sent out via email to club secretaries and players who have supplied email addresses.
SUPERVET EVENTS Competitors in this event must have been aged 50 or over on the 1st September 2011.
‘B’ SECTION EVENTS Entrants for the ‘B’ events must be registered for a team in Division 1 or lower.
‘C’ SECTION EVENTS Entrants for the ‘C’ events must be registered for a team playing in Division 3 or lower.
CLOSING DATE Entry forms together with the correct fees must be returned to the Tournament Secretary at the above address not later than Friday October 21st. No entries will be accepted after this date.
The New Season will start on the 13th September, 2011. Unfortunately the school required the hall on the 6th september.
There is now a newly formed Manchester Badminton League, which is a merger between the Manchester & District Badminton League and the South Manchester Badminton League. The new league will have five divisions and will adopt the new 21 point scoring system. Each pairing will play two games of 21 points and with nine pairings a match will be 18 games as before. Rally will play in Divisions 1 & 5. See our "Links page" for access to the new web site.
The Midway Summer Badminton League Tournament has ended again. The following results are the Final table positions. (They differ from the old results because we are using a new scoring method. Now, if a pair reaches 13 points they will score 1 point with a second received if they reach 15 points and win the game.) The final results were determined on the last night after a close run competition. The MidwayRally Club thanks all of the players for their enthusiastic participation, because without them the tournament could not exist.

Week 10 (Final) POSITIONS (NEW SCORING SYSTEM)
The club is expecting to start the new season on the 6th September, 2011.
The last season 2010/2011 has been a mixed one. In the Stockport League, the Midway 'A' team will stay in the Premier Division. The 'B' team will stay in Division 2. Unfortunately we had to drop the "C" team. In the Manchester League, all of the results are not in yet but it looks as if the Rally 'A' team will stay in Division 1 and the 'B' team in the 3rd Division. The club did not have as many visitors as the last year, Hence, the Annual Fees for next year have been revised. The Annual Subscription will remain the same at £ 90.00 but the Match Fee will have to rise to £ 4.00 and the Visitors Fee to £ 5.00. With these changes and a reduction of playing nights at the end of April, the budget for next season should balance. The new season should start on the first Tuesday in September.

As most clubs, we are experiencing a shortage of ladies in the club. All members are asked to encourage any friends who are interested in playing badminton to come along, to increase our membership.
Finally, will everybody give/send their contact details to Simon Bradshaw or Darrel Gough, so that he can make sure they are up to date and are a complete record of all our members details? Please send your postal address, phone numbers and e-mail address. The details will be sent to all members to make sure everyone gets it, so apologies if you get it twice. If you notice that someone is missing from the e-mail list and you have their address, please forward it onto them.
Note: It has to be agreed by both Stockport and Manchester Leagues, that the scoring system for matches will remain the same as last season. Games will be to 15 points and you can only score, when your side serves. However, the Manchester League may have to change in order to stay as members of the Badminton Association of England. If they do the change, it means that every point is scored to the winning side whether they serve or not.
