The
club is expecting to start the new season on the 8th September,
2009. Although the first Tuesday is the 1st September, it is
the first day after the August Bank Holiday, hence we have decided to
start on the 2nd Tuesday.

The
Midway Summer Badminton League Tournament has started again. The
following results are updated weekly. They differ
from the old results because we are using a new scoring method.
Now, if a pair reaches 13 points they will score 1 point with a second
received if they reach 15 points and win the game.
This
years tournament has drawn to a close. The final night provided a
close finish, which was decided by the result of the last mixed
games. Midway 1, which was in the lead had completed all of their
matches and could be caught by Sydall Park, if they won al of their
games against Midway 2. This they started to do until the last
games of the evening, when the Midway 2 pair managed to win. This
gave victory to Midway 1 by 4 points. This is only the second time
that Midway have won the trophy in 26 tries.
The
MidwayRally Club thanks all of the players for their enthusiastic
participation, because without them the tournament could not exist.

The
AGM was held on the 14th May in Reddish. The season had been a
mixed one.
In
the Stockport League, the Midway 'A' team finished next to the bottom of
the Premier Division. Depending on the teams for next season, they
may be relegated. The 'B' team WON Division 3 and will be promoted
to Division 2. The 'C' will stay in Division 3.
In
the Manchester League, the Rally 'A' team finished next to the bottom
and might be relegated. The 'B' team finished 3rd in the Division.
During
the season, Jill Crawley and Andy Buckley represented Cheshire in the
Over 45 Veterans Championships, where they helped Cheshire to become
NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.
The
club did not have as many visitors as the last year, Hence, the Annual
Fees for next year have been revised. The Annual Subscription will
remain the same at £ 90.00 but the Match Fee will have to rise to £
4.00 and the Visitors Fee to £ 5.00. With these changes and a
reduction of playing nights at the end of April, the budget for next
season should balance.
The
new season should start on the first Tuesday in September.

League
EGM on 15th September, 2008
At the EGM on Monday.
The representatives from Badminton England gave up their time to explain
the advantages of re-affiliating to Badminton England. In
particular they emphasized the part that is being played in coaching
juniors and school teams.
There was a lengthy
debate, with strong views on both sides of the argument and everyone
involved feels that it had a fair airing. The proposal to
re-affiliate was eventually rejected by 54 to 17, with 5 abstentions.
Although we know those in favour of the resolution will feel
disappointed, I'm sure we can all agree that it was good to see the
level of interest shown in badminton in the Stockport area by this large
turn out.
We hope that we can
all work together to further the development of badminton in the area
and in particular by providing a welcoming and supportive environment to
young and new players as was mentioned by many clubs at the meeting.
